We loved our shoot with Jens! We did the Gion/Higashiyama route and it was great. It was nice to be able to walk around and hear about the area. He made us feel very comfortable and natural. We were browsing around various photoshoot options online so that we could have more photos for our wedding reception at the end of the year, and we found out about Jens through Google. Our initial plan was to have a few additional photos that we could take around the bamboo forest and the kimono forest; perhaps a few locations around the area.

Jens has exceeded our expecations and beyond as his photography skills was on point and we managed to get over 60 photos that we liked among the 200+ photos that were taken on the day. On top of that, he was very knowledgeable in avoiding the crowded areas and maximising the 2 hour photoshoot session, taking us to locations that we would not have thought of if we went by ourselves. He was also an amazing person to be around as his quirky personality and friendly attitude helped us to be at ease when photos are being taken. When heading to different locations, he would often give us suggestions on food or different attractions that we could visit around Kyoto. By the end of the photoshoot, we could say that we gained a friend in the process.

We loved having Jens as our photographer and if we had more time in Kyoto, we would have loved to do more photoshoots with him or just have him as a tour guide. We could not stress enough how much we would recommend him if you ever do decide to have a photoshoot in Kyoto.

If you want to capture charming photos in the best places in Kyoto as well as have a fun and relaxed time, then Jens is the best photographer for this. My mother and I were only in Kyoto for a couple of days, and we were lucky that Jens managed to capture memories for us from such good angles and in such unique corners of Kyoto. We were surprised at how skillfully and professionally he can photograph in crowded places as if you were all alone there. My family likes to do kimono photos as a reminder of our trips to Japan. This year I wanted to do something very different and vibrant. I found @phototaiken on IG and was able to see his amazing Oiran style photography. Jens (photographer) was easy to message via IG to set up the photo shoot. Since I live in Hawaii the time difference is big and he was quick to respond to my many many many questions.

The Oiran photo shoot was an enjoyable and easy going experience. We arrived at the studio and was greeted on the street by Jens who then took us to the studio. I didn’t speak any Japanese so it was great to have Jens help translate for us what the makeup and hair ladies were asking. My family of 4 had a great time taking photos and my kids said they had so much fun because the photographer was funny. Jens made them feel comfortable and also gave clear directions to assist in modeling. It took about 2 weeks to receive our photos and they turned out better than I had expected.

I would recommend @phototaiken if you are ever in Kyoto and want to have photos done. Jens does outdoor or indoor photography. He also does walking tours, although we didn’t have time for that on this trip. Reach out to him for details.

It was such a wonderful photoshoot experience with Jens! He was so patient and kind with our 2 year old and managed to get some great portraits of her as well. Jens was easy to communicate with and he was very knowledgeable about the quieter spots where our daughter was more comfortable. His photo taking skills are amazing too! We are so happy with the results as he managed to capture all of us with the blooming sakuras with great detail.
