Photography was one of my top priorities when it came to booking our wedding vendors and services since it's how you are able to hold your memories forever. As an artist, I was looking for a photographer that made art; art that stood out, that was timeless, and beyond just wedding photos. I think their photography portfolio speaks for itself, but, also, Heather was very helpful when it came to planning and advice. Ryan and Katie captured our night so beautifully, you can feel the love and excitement through the photos. They were so kind and calming throughout the day, I was so grateful to have them be a part of our special day. Just hire them! They are so fantastic and so talented; our photos look like works of art. Our wedding was SEVEN years ago at this point and our vendors are STILL POSTING our pictures on social media... that is how timeless the shots are that you will get! They don't look like any other run-of-the-mill white-washed photos you are going to get from every other photographer. If "light and airy" is your thing, no shade just save some $$ and get someone else. But if you want rich, sultry, punch-you-in-the-face photos people are still going to want to look at year after year... get Dark Roux! We are average-looking people and they somehow managed to make us look like freaking celebrities who belong on the cover of a magazine! I cannot say enough about them and how happy we are that we made the investment!

We recently worked with the team at Dark Roux Studio. They were all very friendly and professional. We liked the photos and appreciate the effort that went into capturing our wedding day.

However, the pricing and packaging for design work left us disappointed. During our initial consultation, I specifically requested pricing information for various design packages, but none was provided. During our photo reveal + design meeting, we were shocked to hear that customers typically spend an additional few thousand dollars on prints—on top of what we’d already paid prior to the event. It was surprising and frustrating to hear these figures casually mentioned after the wedding had concluded, making it feel like these costs were conveniently withheld until we were more invested. Encountering charges like $100+ for basic engravings or $25 for simple spot-healing added to the sense of aggressive pricing.

This lack of transparency was frustrating; had we known about these costs upfront, it would have influenced our choice of vendor. We feel the current pricing setup pushes clients to spend more than expected, which detracts from an otherwise positive experience.

While we’re happy with the photos and the team’s hard work, we just wish the pricing had been more transparent from the start so we could make a fully informed decision.

10 years ago we chose Dark Roux as our wedding photographers. It was one of the best decisions we made! Our pictures are beautiful, timeless, and take us back to 10/20/2012 each time we look at them. If you’re reading this, just go ahead and book Heather and Jaime! We eloped to New Orleans, just us. I wanted nothing more than to be married in the French Quarter and have incredible pictures that would capture the emotion of our day. Jaime nailed it! He even recommended an officiant for the ceremony because we didn’t know of any and took us all around the Quarter taking pictures and discovering new places.
These are not your typical wedding photographers. They capture images that make you feel like you’re reliving the most important moments of your life. They take the time to get to know your relationship and what is important to you.
Hands down, besides marrying the love of my life, hiring Dark Roux was the best decision we made for our elopement.
